Top Kaldheim Cards
Kaldheim, the latest Magic: The Gathering expansion, features hundreds of new cards. We’ll focus on the best color and pick the five best Uncommons
Hailstorm Valkyrie
Snow is an important part of Kaldhiem. You can synergize very well to get great effects. Here we have a snow creature: an Angel Wizard. Tribal decks are very popular, so you can build around that, too. While the Valkyrie starts off as a 2/2 when you summon it, if you used Snow Lands to cast it, it can become a 6/6 with Trample!
Skemfar Shadowsage
This creature features the types “elf” and “cleric.” Elves are a great tribe to build around, and Black has a lot of interesting cards. This creature has excellent defense, plus a modal ability: use the second to shore up your life total, or the the first to finish the game. With a lot of low-cost Elves, either mode should be easy to reach.
Vengeful Reaper
This time we get a cleric angel to work with. This card has several relevant abilities: flying (to evade your opponent’s creatures), deathtouch (to fell even the largest ones), and haste (to strike hard and fast). Plus, we have the latest and greatest MtG mechanic: Foretell. “Hide” this card until the right time.
Poison Cup
There are many creatures in a game of Brawl or Commander that are kill on sight. Have this spell ready for the right time, by tucking it away in the Exile zone via Fortell. That also reduces the cost, which is excellent. The icing on the cake is that you get to Scry 2 if it was foretold. Looking two cards deep always helps.
Tergrid’s Shadow
Yet another Foretell card (I think the mechanic is here to stay!) that you can save for later. This mini board wipe can be cast for one less mana at the right time. It being an Instant is amazing! While it won’t wipe away all creatures, it should hit enough to shift the balance of power in a game. Combo it it with Tergrid, herself, for even more value.
Conclusion
What do you think of the top 5 Black cards from Kaldheim I picked? I think these serve several purposes for several occasions. Let me know what you think in the comments.
